He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew and Lydia; his sibling Erling Nelson (late Betty); and his niece Sandra Azzarello (Phil). He is survived by: his wife Dolores; his children, Valerie Nelson Litchfield, Gary (Sharon) and Ron Nelson (Julie); his grandchildren, John Litchfield (Joseph Olszewski), Michael Litchfield (Caroline), Anne Calderon (Fidel), Sam Nelson (Natalie), Madeline, Maddox and Sydney Nelson; his nephew Kurt Nelson (Beverly); and his niece Jacqueline King (Mark).

Visitation was held on Sunday, June 9th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home & Cremation Services (11028 SW Hwy, Palos Hills, IL 60465). A prayer was held on Monday, June 10th 2024 from 9:15 AM to 9:30 AM at the same location. A Mass was held on Monday, June 10th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Church (8245 W 111th St, Palos Hills, IL 60465). A burial was held on Monday, June 10th 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery (6001 W 111th St, Alsip, IL 60803).
