He was predeceased by: his parents, Kuni Ritter and Albert Ritter; and his siblings, Bill, Robert and Isabel.

He is survived by: his wife Karyl Lee Ritter; his children, Laura Ritter-Martiniak (LeRoy), Christine Ritter-Garritson (Mark) and Joseph Jr. Ritter (Jessica); and his grandchildren, Krystal Wyss (Lucas), Kayla Garritson and Kyle Martiniak.
