She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Blair Varnes and Madeline Varnes; her brother Edward Varnes; her sons, Michael Thomsen (Nancy) of Parker and Marc Thomsen (Heidi) of New Prague, Minnesota.; her grandchildren, Britin, Braelie, Ben, Maren, Kira, Afton and Logan; her sister Pamela Varnes Srock; and her close friend Jim Roche.

Valerie received the gift of 9 ½ years of extra life due to the selfless act of one family through organ donation.
