He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence McWard and Velma McWard (Klingler); his spouse Shirley Bates; and his siblings, Juanita Harvey, Irma Bryan, Betty Jo Ward and Harold.

He is survived by: his children, Marie (Patrick Kapustka), Cheryl, Dean (Venise Devore) and Christine (Jaime Alban); his grandchildren, Alex, Kevin, Claire Kapustka, Jacob McWard, Sophia and Sam Alban; his brothers, Lyle McWard of Decatur and Larry McWard (Connie) of Morrisonville; and his caregivers, Sandy Miller, Tanya Ishmael, Julia England and Brooke Burney. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
