He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Carlson and Arlene Carlson (Anderson); his wife Mary Armstrong; and his daughters, Erin and Elizabeth.

He is survived by: his daughter Katie Willet (Aaron); his grandchildren, Avery, Easton and Emersyn Willet; and his sister Pam Carlson.
