He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Robert Bassing and Minnie Bassing (Fessler); his wife Mary Faith Bassing; his daughter Rebecca Kovash; his son-in-law Chad Kovash; his grandchildren, Elly and Libby; his siblings-in-law, Jane Zimmerman (Ted), Martha Schmitt (Tom), Sue Zolper (Jerry) and Gary Campbell (Nancy); and his nieces, Robin Boyes (Jim) and Joan Bassing (Kelly Connor).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research, the Illinois Veterans Home at LaSalle, or Pet Project.
