He was predeceased by: his parents, Hudson Willard and Marjorie Vivian; and his brother William. He is survived by: his wife Claudia; his children, Gary Auten (Diane), Stephen Auten (Amy) and Sonya Leto; his grandchildren, Autumn, Dominic, Emma, Andrew, Ben, John and William; and his brother James Auten (Beverly).
