He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Maier and Agnes Maier; his sisters, Vivian Lillard (late Leo) and Patricia Spalla (late Sal); and his friend Neil Borgstrom.

He is survived by: his siblings, Joan Flynn (late Jack), Richard Maier (Diane) and Dorothy Glaister.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 1st 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Our Lady of the Woods Church (10731 W 131st St, Orland Park, IL 60462). A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, April 1st 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the same location.

“I am heart broken to hear of John’s passing! John was my first supervisor when I worked at Kennedy School . He was kind, caring , and loved the young men we worked with. John had an outstanding sense of humor and put everyone at ease during an adverse situation. He was loved and will be missed my many. My sincere condolences to the family. Sincerely, Linda Kennebrew”
