He was predeceased by: his parents, Doyle Heckendorn and Flora Heckendorn (Fetterman); and his sister Judy London. He is survived by: his wife Virginia L. Balle of Oregon; his children, Lynda Gernat of Chantilly, Virginia, Alana Bell of Saluda, Donna Kesler of Punxsutawney and Dr. Jeffrey Cates of Oregon, IL; and his grandchildren, Soren Cates and Eric Cates.
A memorial fund is established in Jim's name for the Parkinson's Research foundation.
