He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Hand and Maxine Hand (Zippe); his brother Ed Hand; and his close friend Eve Cochran. He is survived by: his former spouse Fay Adams; his children, David Hand (Rhonna) of Oquawka and Jennifer Hand (Evan) of Oquawka; his grandchildren, Ethan Hand (Anahi), Alicen Hand and Riley Hand; his great grandchild Maya Hand; his pets, Jax and Brody; his stepmother Barbara Hand of Burlington; his siblings, Steve Hand, Susan Carper and Becky Heiniger; and his stepsiblings, Linda Ellis, Jim Howard, Sandy Steele and Sally Miller.

A memorial has been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
