She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph J. McVey and Martha M. McVey (Collins); and her spouse Jimmie Lee Essex. She is survived by: her children, Wanda Cook of Oquawka and David Essex (Dorothy) of Oquawka, Illinois.; her granddaughters, Pam Orwig (Jeff) of Galesburg, Lisa Carroll of Monmouth, Paula Cook of Oquawka, Cynthia Cox (Chris) of Monmouth, Angie Dunning (Bill) of Taylorsville and Amanda Reynolds (Mike) of Burlington, Iowa.; her friend Bonnie Frank; and her cousin Maude Meyer.
Memorials may be made to either "Betty's Garden" at Courtyard Estates in Monmouth, or to the Oquawka United Methodist Church.
