It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Smithjr. (Opdyke, Illinois), born in Mount Vernon, Illinois, who passed away on May 3, 2019, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his wife Wanda Maxine Wilson; and his son Marlin Kent Smith. He is survived by: his close friend Gerri Boone of Mount Vernon, Illinois; his children, Gregory Smith (Nancy) of Carbondale, Douglas Smith of Fort Worth, Texas and Marla Brown of Carterville, Illinois; his grandchildren, Brittany Simpson (Trenton), Lindsey Brown (Clinton Pierson), Melissa Brown, Alaina Smith, Emily Smith and Brian Clover; his great grandchild Gunnar Dale Simpson; and his sister Joyce Ann Hawkins. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the St. Francis CARE Animal Shelter in Murphysboro, Illinois.
