He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira Gilmore and Esther Herina Brooks (Finkbiner); and his siblings, Rose Bailey, Linda Lee and Russell Finkbiner.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Brooks (Peyton); his children, Becky Shelton (Owen) of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Clarence Brooks of Opdyke and Matthew Brooks of Opdyke, Illinois; his grandchildren, Drake Tate (Lexi) of Walnut Hill, Kyle Shelton (Taylea) of Mount Vernon, Katie McConnell (Garrik) of Mount Vernon, Dalton Brooks (Mikayla) of Bluford and McKynleigh Brooks of Opdyke, Illinois; his great grandchildren, Preslea Shelton, Trent Shelton and Chase Tate; and his sisters, Mary Brooks of Centralia, Anna Marlowe of Mount Vernon and Jane Edwards of Opdyke, Illinois..
