He was predeceased by: his parents, John Spitzmiller and Maree Spitzmiller (Mayszak); his wife Rita Mertel; his son Scott; his sister-in-law Gail Jeffrey (Mertel); and his pets, Jessie and Brandy.
He is survived by: his daughter Kathy Casstevens (Spitzmiller); his grandchildren, Stephanie Baiocchi (Angela) of Highland Park and Grant Casstevens (Ashley Patyk) of LaSalle; his brother John Spitzmiller of Stuart, FL; and his extended family, Bob, Mary Kozikowski of Spring Valley, Mike, Sue Mertel of Utica, Evie Manrriquez of Peru, Kent and Patsy Spitzmiller of Texas. He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a future memorial to Jim.
