He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Johnson and Rosetta Johnson (Hirtzig); and his daughter Lisa Decker (Hirtzig). He is survived by: his children, Melanie Hirtzig-Zinn (Joshua Kennett), Julie DeBoard (Hirtzig), Katie Hirtzig (Jacob Negray) and Leandra Gillespie (Casey Gillespie); and his close friend Stacey Eddy. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, one brother.
