He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Ackerman and Essie Ackerman. He is survived by: his son Walter Ackerman Jr. (Misty) of Jasper, AL; his sister Barbara Ackerman of New Mexico; and his close friends, Amber Conrad of Oblong, IL and Mark Shonk of Oblong, IL.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the "Walter H. Ackerman Memorial Fund" in care of Pulliam Funeral Home.
