He was predeceased by: his wife Ann O'Connell; his sister-in-law Margaret Green (late Ralph); his parents, John O'Connell and Clare O'Connell; and his sisters, Joan Whalan (Bill) and Judy Kraus (Ed).

He is survived by: his children, Roxann O. Smith (Edward), Amy Horecky (Earl) and Stephen O'Connell (Patricia); his grandchildren, Anna, Brian, Kevin Horecky, Edward, Clare, Declan Smith, Aidan and Ryan O'Connell; his great grandchild Lily; and his sister-in-law Celeste O'Dea (late Bill). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
