He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Petterson and Julia Petterson; his wife Nancy L. Millen; and his brother Orval Petterson. He is survived by: his children, Melody Schlaack (Carl) of Ludington, Rod Petterson of Aurora, IL and Larry Petterson (Kelly) of Marseilles, IL; his siblings, Idella Franz of International Falls, Harold Petterson (Linda) of Devil's Lake and Joan Schrader of Langdon; and his sister-in-law Betty Petterson of Osnabrock. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, his many nieces and nephews and his most loyal companion and guard dog.
