He was predeceased by: his parents, Xaver Schmalz and Barbara Schmalz (Krieger); his wife Alma Schmalz; and his siblings, Emilie Gerhardt and Adam Schmalz.
He is survived by: his children, Irene Pappa (Joe) of Oswego, IL, Debbie Heiser (Jeff) of Byron, IL and Frank Schmalz (Barb) of Serena, IL.; his grandchildren, Dustin Heiser (Jessica), John Heiser (Angie), Thomas, Erika Pappa (Brandon Ferrell), Daniel, Jacob and Adam Schmalz; and his great grandchildren, Hailey Heiser, Aurora and Jenna Heiser. He is also survived by brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws and several nieces and nephews.
