Though Virgil may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Virgil touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be used to establish a memorial at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Dr. Short's name in the future.

“Pat and the Family of Dr. Short. As I read Dr. Short's obituary you captured his spirit "...a gentle breeze, a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries." He was indeed a very 'special person' in the lives that he touched. My relationship with Dr. Short started when he became a SAR member on Mav. 8, 2010.
