He is survived by: his siblings, Martha Orns, Mary Ann McCoy and David L. Shutt; his wife Shirley R. Shutt; his sons, James S. Shutt and Terry L. Shutt; and his stepdaughters, Barbara Ketcham, Karen Fegurson, Linda Phillips and Lisa Oana. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

James continued his charity at Unity Church of Las Vegas over 10 years following his passion running the sound system and custodian work.
