He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Vahling and Eleanor Vahling (Zumbahlen); his wife Marilyn Burnell; his grandson Jeremy Vahling; and his brothers-in-law, Richard J. Cazel and James Waldhoff.
He is survived by: his children, David Vahling (Janet) of Newton, Illinois, Betty Smith (Brad) of Teutopolis, Illinois, Nancy Ginder (Dale) of Newton, Illinois, JoAnn Kocher (Kevin) of Sumner, Illinois, Karen Shaffer (Don) of Newton, Illinois, Sandra Will (Sam) of Gila, Illinois, Mary Beth Whittom (Chris) of Steeleville, Illinois and Peggy Stephenson (Stuart) of Jacksonville; his siblings, Harold Vahling (Jane) of Mattoon, Illinois, Leonard Vahling (Madonna) of Island Grove, Illinois, Donald Vahling (Barb) of Effingham, Illinois, Anna Mae Waldhoff of Teutopolis, Illinois and Doris Walk (Bill) of Sigel, Illinois; and his siblings-in-law, Don Burnell (Judy) of Latona, Illinois, Paul Burnell (Pam) of Latona, Illinois. and Catherine Cazel of Rockford. He is also survived by 25 Grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren with one on the way and 1 great-great grandchild.
