With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Hedwig Birkner of New Athens, Illinois, born in Breese, Illinois, who passed away on September 21, 2020 at the age of 95. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Hedwig Birkner to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her husband Gilbert E. Birkner; her daughter Evelyn Wittenbrink; her parents, Frank Macke and Frances; her siblings, Wilbert Macke and Rosemary Bujnak; and her son-in-law Frank Gregson.
She is survived by: her children, LuAnn Schertel (Alan), Gilbert L. Birkner (Deanna), Jonella Donius (Michael) and Dane Wittenbrink; her grandchildren, Jeanne Reis (Mike), Kyle Wittenbrink (Amanda), Angela Harbaugh (Jeff), Dayne Wittenbrink, Scott Gregson, Dr. Kristi Moore (Jason), Katie Munden (James), Dr. Danielle Doerr (Kyle), Alexandra Birkner, Nicolette Birkner, Gilbert "Zach" Birkner, Andrew and Timothy Donius; her siblings, Marcella Orsa and Charles Macke (Catherine); and her brother-in-law Allan Birkner (Mary Lou). She is also survived by nieces; nephews; and cousins.
