He was predeceased by: his parents, Byron and Katherine; his siblings, David Short and Vada McDaniel; and his stepson David Barker.
He is survived by: his former spouse Johan Hays; his wife Joyce Short; his sister Virginia; his brother-in-law Paul Treadwell; his children, Donna (Rod Kauhl), Paul (Dawn Short), Brad Short, Mike Short and Karen (John Pannier); his children-in-law, Robert, Jeannie Barker, Joyce, Devin Hefley, Daniel and Angela Hays; and his son Roger Hays. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 21 step-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Smithton, IL First Baptist Church elevator/lift fund.
