He was predeceased by: his parents, Ashley F. Johnston and Alta L Johnston (Hawn); his wife Melvina "Ruby" Johnston; and his children, Keith Allen Johnston and Melissa Ann Johnston.
He is survived by: his former wife Melvina Frances Ruby Davis; his wife JoAnn Johnston of Neoga, Illinois; his children, Jennifer Bennett of Greenup, Gina Johnston of Champaign, Illinois and Eric Bierman (Kim Behringer) of Neoga, Illinois; his sister Margaret; his granddaughters, Heather Morgan and Allie Orr; and his stepgranddaughters, Erica Fearday, Rachel Bierman, Andrea Bierman and Megan Bierman. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
