He was predeceased by: his parents, James and Evelyn; and his siblings, LaBerta Nehs (Ed), Marillyn Roberts (Mac) and Russell Bowers (Norma).
He is survived by: his wife Adrianne Coates; his children, Mary Ellen Coates and James Coates Jr. (Giovanni Duran); his grandson Alexander Coates; and his sister Donna Waltman (Glenn). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
