He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray H. Varner and Millie Varner (Norman); and his wife Patricia Koenig. He is survived by: his children, Kevin Varner of Murphysboro, Richard "Rick" Varner (Mary Beth Varner) of Murphysboro and Marsha McCulloch (Greg McCulloch) of Harrisburg; his granddaughters, Bethany Varner (John Ryman) of Murphysboro, Amber McCulloch of Harrisburg and Kristen Lewis (Daniel Lewis) of Carrier Mills; his great grandchildren, Bella Ryman, Leighton Miller, Hutson Lewis and Holden Lewis; his brothers, Robert Varner of Murphysboro and Gary Varner (Ann Varner) of Murphysboro; his sister-in-law Darlene Porter (Mike Porter) of Murphysboro; and his friend Marge Smith of Murphysboro. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
