With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Helen Maxine Smith (Murphysboro, Illinois), born in Marion, Illinois, who passed away on March 5, 2023 at the age of 90. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Edward Charles and Emma Gulley (Shelford); her husband Kenneth Lowell Smith; her siblings, Toler Gulley, James Edward Gulley, Mary Fergus, Irene Dralle, Eileen White, Marie Elliott, Shirley Ferrari and Juanita Rankin; her son Chad Smith; and her granddaughter Erica Layne Smith.

She is survived by: her children, Mark Smith (Gail Petreikis) of Johnston City, Brad Smith (Tracy) of Herrin, Eric Smith (Kristin) of Creal Springs, Leslie Smith of Carterville and Tara Deaton (Bob) of Herrin; her grandchildren, Ross Smith of Johnston City, Stefanie Smith of Herrin, Keegan Smith of Energy and Casey Smith; her great grandchildren, Ethan Adams of Herrin, Kamdan, Kambria Smith of Westminister, Arya Greeley of Cleburne, Asher and Carter Smith of Del Rio, Texas; and her sister Dorothy Wade of Winter Haven, FL. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
