He was predeceased by: his parents, William Fredrick Berndt and Bertha Berndt (Raatz); his brother Edwin; his wife Beverly Mae Berndt; his son Richard; and his children-in-law, Earl, Hazel Berndt, Linda, Henry Muenchow, Edwin, Sarah Berndt, Franklin, Ann Berndt, Jule and Lois Berndt.
He is survived by: his pet River; his children, Julie Shaver (Jack) of Libertyville, IL., Nancy Ryan (Mike) of Grayslake, IL. and Jon Berndt (Mary) of Hawthorn Woods, IL.; his grandchildren, Eric, Nick (Megan), Doug (Queena), Patrick (Becky), Chris (Kaitlin), Ben (Michelle) and Maddie; his great grandchildren, Brody, Sloane, Flynn, Emery, Atticus, Oliver, Rylan, Maeve, Charlie and George; and his siblings-in-law, Rosemary Freischimdt and Jim Salm. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
