He was predeceased by: his parents, James Mears and Ellen Mears (Bertrang); and his brother Dale. He is survived by: his wife Tonya Juhl of Mt. Zion; his daughter Tish Mears Albert (Carter Canterbury) of Peoria, IL; his granddaughter Chloe Shaffer (Tyler) of Mt. Zion; his siblings, William Mears (June) of Decatur, Glen Mears of New Mexico, Barbara Maglone of Blue Mound, IL, Gloria Beaman (Greg) of Taylorville, IL, Lynn Trueblood (Jerry Moyer) of Decatur, IL and Penny Olson (Jeff) of Cisco, IL; and his sister-in-law Joni Mears of Decatur.

Memorials may be made in Kent's memory care of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
