It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Irene Evelyn Smith of Mount Zion, Illinois, who passed away on November 26, 2022, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her brother-in-law Lloyd Smith of Mt. Zion; her daughter Linda Lou Smith; her brother Kenneth Grobengieser; her sons-in-law, Charles Farris Sr. and William Helmbacher; her stepgrandchildren, Karen Farris and Eddie Farris; her siblings-in-law, Marie Bannick (Smith), Earl Smith (Shirley), Evelyn Clagg (Charles), Nadine Antonides (Lee), Maxine Belinsky (Frank), Mary Ann Smith (Herron) and Hubert Smith (Bernadine "Bunny"); her parents, Edwin Christian Martin Grobengieser and Alma Friederiche Wilhelmina Grobengieser (Ferchow); and her husband David Warren Smith.
She is survived by: her children, David Smith (Ruth Ann), Ruth Ann Farris (Smith) of Toledo and Gina Moulder (Robert "Bob") of Centralia; her grandchildren, James Farris (Peggy), Travis Farris of Morton, Katherine Smith of Gainesville, Fla., Charles Farris (Elizabeth "Liz" Kopp) of Toledo, Andrew Smith (Elizabeth "Liz") of Centralia, Lucas Moulder of Centralia, Samuel Moulder of Centralia and Adam Moulder of Centralia; her brother Arlin Grobengieser (Lillian); her stepgrandchildren, Jeff Farris of Mattoon and Sharon Kay Bass (Farris) of Mattoon; her great grandchildren, Chester Trueblood, Briana Farris of Travis, Ivette Farris of Mattoon and Hunter Smith of East Dundee; and her great great grandchildren, Rylie Irene Farris and Braxley Trueblood.
She served on the St. Paul quilting group, In Stitches, since 1995 and enjoyed making the many tied or knotted quilts that they made and donated locally and around the world.
