He was predeceased by: his parents, Eldon Lee and Dorothy Evelyn Avants (King); his sisters, Nancy Hostmeyer and Karol Cathey; and his nephew Phillip Cory.
He is survived by: his children, Melissa (Steven Boydstun), Terri Ann Prose, Cheryl (Kevin Norman) and Ezekial Ryan Avants Cathlina (Josh Berry). He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; seven siblings.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of one's choice.
