He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert J. Carlton and Melba Azalea Carlton (Huffstutler); his children, Douglas Carlton and Angela Howard; and his sister Roberta Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Brian Carlton of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Deirdre Jarrell (Fred) of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and his sister Janice Boldrey of Opdyke, Illinois. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
