He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Emmerson and Mildred Marie Staley (Meador); his wife Carolyn Staley (Herriman); his brother Eddie Bender, Sr.; his parents-in-law, Carl and Irene Herriman; his uncles, Bob Staley, Elmer Staley (Evelyn), Leon Rogers (Dorothy), Bob Meador and Joe Meador; his aunt Elouise Packish (Ed Packish); his grandparents, Pete, Edith Staley, Mason and Opal Meador; his niece Christine Bender; and his cousins, Bill Staley, Jerry Staley and Don Staley.

He is survived by: his son Michael Shawn Staley (Jill) of Mount Vernon; his grandchildren, Dacoda, Katelyn, McKenzie and Candace; his sisters, Cindy Hall (Boyd) of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Edith Staley of Woodlawn, Sheila Strole (Chris) of Mount Vernon, Michelle Baumgarte (Clint) of Benton and Katen Bender Manahan; his half-brother Tom Cechkowski; his uncles, Howard Staley (Phyllis), Ivan Staley (Frances) and Ronnie Meador; his aunt Pat Staley; his brother-in-law Roger Herriman of Saint Louis, Missouri; and his close friends, Gene, Kathy Smith of Smithon, Terry and Diane Schwitz of Mount Vernon, Illinois. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
