He was predeceased by: his parents, Tony Gockel and Aureh Gockel (Yost); his sons, Bob Gockel and Rick Gockel; his brother Tony Gockel; his sister-in-law Emma Lee Gockel; and his grandson John Robert Gockel.

He is survived by: his wife Elsie Gockel (Mays); his son Terry Lee Gockel (Sherry) of McCallaster, Oklahoma; his stepson Randy Lowery of West Frankfort, Illinois; his grandchildren, Katherine Gockel, Joseph Paul Gockel, Eric Gockel, Ashley Gockel, Andria Clarke, Tyler Lowery, Whitney Walker and Caitlyn Lowery; and his great grandchildren, Hannah, Christian, Lydia Gockel, Alyson Craig, Ian Bonner, Justine Mize, Brennon, Wrenley Walker and Sawyer Clarke. He is also survived by several nieces, and nephews.
