He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Thomas and Joan Shirley Whitt (Absolum). He is survived by: his wife Sheila Rae Whitt (Hans); his children, Christina Jacqueline Whitt of Texico, Illinois, Charles Jacob Whitt (Emily) of Mount Vernon, Paul Lewis Whitt (Amber Elizabeth) of Christopher and Rielly Michael Whitt of Mount Vernon, Illinois; his grandchildren, Conner Joseph Whitt, Caleb Jackson Whitt and Everleigh Jade Whitt; his brother Thomas Whitt (Steve) of Mount Prospect, Illinois; his nephews, Joseph and John; and his niece Samantha Chavez.

Memorials may be made in John 's honor to Logan Street Baptist Church.
