She was predeceased by: her parents, John Phelps and Lydia Belle Phelps (Hayes); her husband James W. Smith; her daughter-in-law Bonnie Smith; and her siblings, Inez Harris, Leilia Majors, Edith Ford and Alva Phelps.
She is survived by: her sons, Darrel Smith of Springfield and Harold Smith (Linda) of Tennessee. She is also survived by six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in Helen's honor to Mount Vernon Health Care Center.
