He was predeceased by: his parents, James Shirley and Iva Shirley (Risley); and his siblings, Mary Willis, Thelma Shore and Virgil (Gene Shirley).
He is survived by: his wife Helen Marie Leathers of Mt. Vernon; his son Steven Shirley (Maribeth) of Mt. Vernon; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Jay Holloway) of Mt. Vernon, John (Holly Shirley) of Mt. Vernon and Joshua (Laura) of Sherrills Ford; his great grandchildren, Hunter, Josie, Griffin Shirley, Baylee, Addie and Grant Holloway; and his siblings-in-law, Patricia Cagle and James Shreve.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made in Dennis' honor to SSM Health at Home Hospice, who has been a great blessing to the family.
