He was predeceased by: his father Kenneth W. Black. He is survived by: his mother Shirley Black (Dixon); his wife Angela Black (Henson); his children, David "Doc" Black (Kristina) of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Kelsey Black of Mount Vernon, Illinois; his grandsons, Hayden Black and Ethan Weatherspoon; and his siblings, Richard Black (Tami) of Tampa, Florida and Kendra Krisher (Bill) of Appleton, Wisconsin. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials may be made in David's honor to Jefferson County Fire Protection District.
