He was predeceased by: his father Joseph Holtz; his grandfather Gene Gream; and his pet Leo. He is survived by: his mother Beth Lovin (Hampton); his sons, John (Beth Lovin) and Joe (Megan Holtz); his siblings, Casey Goodwin (Jacob) of Scheller, Illinois, James Lovin (Michelle) of Nashville and John H. Lovin of Nashville, Illinois; his grandparents, Nelson Hampton, Nicki Gream and Betty Glover; his nieces and nephews, Spencer, Isabelle, Sophia, Annie, Clover and Jacob; his uncles, Andrew Hampton (Scottie), Dustin Hampton (Stefanie), Warren "Bunk" Holtz (Ginger) and Steve Holtz (Bonnie); and his pets, Max and Tawanda.
