He was predeceased by: his father Henry Lee; his spouse Alpha Melton; and his siblings, Mattie Smith Peters, Amos Gentles, Lawrence Gentles, Alfred Gentles, Charles Gentles, Maggie Alred, Josaphine Buck, Birdie Gentles and Susie Little.
He is survived by: his children, Anna Warren of Port Orange, Ralph Gentles of Mount Vernon, David Gentles (Karen) of Woodlawn, Charles Gentles of Mount Vernon, Todd Gentles (Lisa) of Montgomery and Mary Spiller of Mount Vernon. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in Red's honor to Saint Mary School.
