He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas M. Atkins and Viva Fern Atkins (Isom); his daughter-in-law Cindia Atkins; and his siblings, Ila Newell, Marie Hall, June Hamlin, Bobby Atkins, Donald Atkins and Lowell Atkins.
He is survived by: his children, Jeffrey Mark Atkins (Crystal) of Highland, Thomas R. Atkins of Mount Vernon and Denise Banes (Jeff) of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and his grandchildren, Ambur Qualk-Emrich (Shane) of Mount Vernon, Dylan Shane Henry (Taylor) of Patuxent River, Matthew Thomas Atkins of Champaign, Michelle Brianne Shrum (Joel) of Kingston Springs, Aaron Marcus Atkins (Kawehi) of Mount Vernon and Adam Troy Atkins (Brittany) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Newell Funeral Home (601 S 42nd St, Mt Vernon, IL 62864). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
Memorials may be made in Tommy's honor to Knob Prairie Cemetery.
