He was predeceased by: his wife Joan Schmit; and his parents, Michael E. Schmit and Anna Agnes Schmit. He is survived by: his sons, Donald G. Jr. Schmit (Denise) and David Schmit (Maria); his grandchildren, Dr. Donald J. Schmit (Lauren Blum), Jessica D. Schmit (Justin Muench), Daniel P. Schmit (Stephanie) and Annika B. Polinski (Andrew); and his great grandchild Dalton Schmit.
In lieu of flowers, Donald's family has requested donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
