He was predeceased by: his parents, Hershel Cannon and Iva Mae Cannon (Chitty); and his siblings, Raymond, Gerald, Joseph (Clara), Jeanetta Kay, Beverly (Smithson) and June (Boswick).
He is survived by: his wife Joy (Fry); his daughters, Diana Hovey (Dale) of Morton, IL and Janice Witt (Gary) of Jerseyville, IL; his grandchildren, Brandon Hovey (Amanda) of Morton, Grant Hovey of De Moines, IA and Megan Witt Childers (Ben) of Carterville, IL; his great grandchild Cannon James Childers; his stepgrandchildren, Chris Hovey and Jennifer Hovey Spencer; his stepgreat-grandsons, Darian and Dalton; his brothers, James of Chicago, Richard (Rita) of Carbondale and Kenneth (Jo Nell) of Mt. Vernon; his brothers-in-law, Jim Fry (Deanne) of Florida and Bob Smithson; and his pets, Snowy and Leo. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins.
Memorials may be given to Roland Manor Baptist Church, 2433 Washington Rd, Washington, IL 61571 where George and his family were active members for many years, or First Baptist Church, 900 East Jefferson, Morton, IL 61550 where he and Joy transferred membership when they relocated to Morton.
