He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Birkey and Martha Birkey (Ackerman); his wife Mary Lou Ritthaler; his sons, Jerry Birkey (Sherry) of Bourbonnais and Terry Birkey of Deer Creek; his grandchildren, Stephanie Reffey (Lee) of Dallas, Zach Birkey (Briley) of Monee, Nick Birkey (Ashley) of Bourbonnais, Amber Birkey (Aaron) of Morton, Tyler Birkey (Joanne) of Deer Creek and Kali Kitt (Rahjon) of East Peoria; and his siblings, Walter, Raymond Birkey and Wilma Schwartz.
