He was predeceased by: his parents, Patrick Leo and Ella Josephine Whalen (Marten); and his brothers, Leo, Bill and Clyde Whalen.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Whalen of Morrisonville, IL; his children, Joseph Whalen (Dianne), Marcia Nicklas of Springfield, IL, Patrick "Andy" Whalen (Connie) of Morrisonville, IL and Thomas Whalen (Jane) of Chatham, IL; and his sister Mary Mormino of Taylorville, IL. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.
