He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Bern V. Hicks and Avis E. Hicks (Smith); his wife Susan Hicks (Hume); his children, Steve R. Hicks (Beverly), Keith L. Hicks, Steven D. Hicks (Krista), Cindy M. Magnin (Doug), Jeffery V. Hicks (Kerry), Shelly M. Hilliard (Hicks), Jonathan E. Mavec, Julie K. and Richard L. Mavec (Melanie); his sister-in-law Hume (late James); and his son Mark W.. He was also cherished by 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in in Dr. Van Hicks' name to First Christian Church in Morris or to Lightsways Hospice in Joliet.
