He was predeceased by: his siblings, Ken, Lloyd, Bernice, Eleanor, Ruth and Dorothy; and his son James Russel Ness.

He is survived by: his wife Trula Ann Welker; his daughter Susan Johnson (Dennis); and his grandsons, Eric and Luke Johnson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
