He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Sophie Kopczick of Morris; his mother Bess Poppe (Krist); his stepfather Bud Poppe; his father Ralph Butler; his brother Robert Butler; his stepbrother Clarence Graff; his brother Frank; his sons, Michael Butler, Leonard, Peter, Randy and John Butler; his nieces, Kathy and Peggy Butler; his grandchildren, Melissa and Michael Butler; and his great grandchildren, Myah Rae Butler and Maxwell Joseph Masset.
Memorials may be made in Melvin's name to Operation St Nick, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or to Boys Town.
