She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Bunton and Myrtle Bunton (Lewins); her husband Willard L. Howen; her siblings, Melvin Bunton and Dorothy Clausen; and her nephew Tom Christensen.

She is survived by: her nieces and nephews, Judy Christensen, Karen Brewick (Virgil), Marcia Mellen (Robert), Jan Olson, Ken Clausen (Cindy), Rebecca Fowler and Robert Clausen (Janet). She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, along with several great-great nieces and nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made in Darlene's name to Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Morris Hospital Auxiliary and Foundation.
